About the Art Déco movement…

If the advent of the First World War left Art Nouveau’s desire for embellishment without motifs, its end precipitated a revival of the taste for decorative elements. Art Déco reigned between 1920 and 1939 and has experienced various revivals since then, especially in the 1970s.

How to recognise it?

This style is characterised by a taste for luxury in its most traditional version, graphic and geometric patterns and the metallic and shiny finishes of glass, steel and chrome. Art Déco is supported by large pieces of furniture, sculptural lamps and rich textiles such as velvet.

In the field of design… who are the key names in Art Déco?

Eileen Gray, Rene Lalique, Le Corbustier and Cassandre.
